Beauty Routines – Hair

Hi everyone! This is the second part of the three part series on my current beauty routines. The previous post was on my shower routine and this one is all about HAIR.

When I was arranging my hair products for this picture, my first thought was…”Why do I have so many hair products?!”

Then, I realized that I am trying to grow out my hair and now that it’s much much longer than what it used to be (i.e. a pixie cut), my hair demands wayyy more attention.

My hair routine is pretty simple despite the amount of products I use. I promise I don’t use all these products on a daily basis!  Here is how my hair routine goes:

Day 1 – Wash with regular shampoo and conditioner. I only a dime-sized amount of shampoo and massage it into the roots of my hair from the bottom of my scalp going towards the temples. After washing out my shampoo, I put on conditioner at the ends of my hair and at the roots near my forehead. I put up my hair using a jaw clip so I can shampoo my body while I wait for my conditioner to sink in. I flip my hair when I wash out my conditioner as per my hairstylist’s advice.

Day 2 ,3 ,4 – No ‘poo. I puff some dry shampoo onto the roots of my hair and the hair at the back of my neck to make sure my hair looks and smells presentable.

Day 5 – Shampoo and condition like Day 1.

Every two weeks, I use my clarifying shampoo and hair mask. This is to get rid of any product buildup in my hair and deeply condition my hair.

I only use heat protectant when I blow dry my hair. I only ever use the blowdryer when I’m pressed for time and can’t let my hair air dry. I usually wait til my hair is 80% dry then go to town with the hairdryer.

Sometimes, when my hair gets out of control, I use a drop (just 1 drop else my hair gets greasy) of argan oil and smooth down those pesky flyaways/frizzes.



I get my hair cut every 8 -10 weeks now that I’m growing it out. When I had a pixie, I used to go in for a haircut every 4-6 weeks. Regardless of your hair length, it is so important that you get it cut regularly to keep it healthy.

My wonderful hairstylist and friend, Beth Lugtu (owner and executive director at Textura Salon) has been my hair maestro for a little more than 2 years now. She is so so so talented and understands my needs and my hair. I’m going in to see her in a few weeks so I’ll be doing a hair update then.
