Who, What, Wear: Go for the Gold

I wore this gold Baju Melayu to a wedding last week and lemme tell you…when in doubt, go for the gold! I instantly felt put together when I wore this. I’ve been to a number of Malay weddings in my life but this was the first white/Western wedding I’ve ever attended so I was excited and had no clue what to expect. Wedding traditions are super interesting to a nerd like me so I spent a lot of time analyzing, comparing and reflecting on the nature and purpose of weddings in society.

Nerd reflections aside, I felt privileged to witness the ceremony. My favorite part of any wedding is the ceremony for sure. I just love the vulnerability of it all. 🙂 I also loved the venue – it was by the beach!

I booked a last-minute makeover when I realized that stressing about a smokey eye 24 hours before attending a friend’s wedding was unproductive (the struggle is real, people). I headed to beautybar on 4th for an express makeover service which included eye and brow makeup. Gina was kind enough to help me apply my tinted moisturizer, concealer and even some blush and lip color! I’m definitely going back there for any other makeup needs in the future.  I even bought a new lipgloss (ssshhh) 😛

Blurry photo but look at my dewy skin! #dewyonfleek

This is one of those pictures I will look back on when I have bad skin days to feel good about myself and subsequently ask myself why my skin was so obnoxiously great.

Face: skoah chikii munkii illuminating tint in ‘sunset’ | Concealer: Cover FX cream concealer in G Medium-Deep | Eyeshadow: a bunch of cream ones by Ellis Faas | Eyeliner: Edward Bess | Lips: unknown lip color from Kevyn Aucoin + Kevyn Aucoin lipgloss in ‘Vesuvian’ on top

you’ve been stylesyah-ed! xo

    • aw thanks so much Asa! It is tradition to wear matching colors with your family especially on the first day of Eid so my whole family in Singapore also rocked the gold. 🙂
The makeup was pretty reasonably priced for what they offered – $25 for pretty much a full face (I brought my own foundation + concealer) and 45 minutes – 1 hour. At that rate, it was definitely worth it for me to go in and get my makeup done because I have zero confidence doing my own makeup for special events. 🙂
